The state requires that the dispensary be open to Medical Patients only for at least 14 hours each week at varying times. A dispensary that sells to a Recreational customer during those mandated hours faces citations and fines and can have their license revoked.
New Jersey does not recognize reciprocity for patients from other states so you cannot use your card for medical cannabis purchases in New Jersey. You can, however, purchase cannabis from a facility approved for adult use sales.
- Maintain a bonafide relationship with a physician who is registered with the New Jersey Division of Medicinal Marijuana (NJDMM).
- Be an New Jersey resident.
- Suffer from one or more of the 17 approved debilitating medical conditions.
- Have your doctor with whom you maintain a bonafide relationship with certify with the New Jersey Division of Medicinal Marijuana that you may receive medical cannabis to treat your condition.
- The doctor will do this online – https://njmmp.nj.gov/njmmp
- The doctor will provide you (the patient) with a reference number.
- After you (the patient) attain the reference number from your doctor, you use it to register on https://njmmp.nj.gov/njmmp/
- After registering, the NJDMM will review the registration and contact you (the patient) via email (if approved) to pay the applicable fee
- After paying the fee, you (the patient) will receive your State issued patient card in the mail.
- You (the patient) do not need to activate your card, (although you may need to call the NJDMM to verify you received it). You can immediately call the ATC you registered with to make an appointment.
Patients can choose any ATC regardless of where they live. There is no cost to change your ATC registration and it does not require a new identification card, but patients can only be registered with one ATC at a time.
It is very important patients verify that your 30-60-90-180-365 day certification period, approved by your physician, is current and up to date. Expiration dates can be found on your profile by selecting the option to view 30-60-90-180-365 certification or by contacting your MMP approved physician.
If you choose to register with a new atc you must follow these instructions
- Go to NJMMP.NJ.GOV
- Select ‘Change ATC’
- Enter the information used to register along with your reference number (this is not case sensitive)
- Click the drop down box and select the ATC of your choice
- Click Save
- If successfully completed the following message will appear in red:
